May 10, 2019 – Last Friday about 200 Albuquerque high school students walked out to demand action on climate change. This public outcry was just the latest demonstration of frustration with the inaction of decision makers. The walk-out came on the same day as the release of a widely covered United Nations study warning of the potential extinction of one million species, with serious quality of life consequences for this generation as a result. Meanwhile, students also voiced frustration over the Albuquerque Public Schools board’s decision to table—for nearly a year—proposed policy revisions on allowing schools to accept money from the National Rifle Association.
