READ ALONG TO PRACTICE YOUR ENGLISH AND TO LEARN THE MEANING OF GET A HOLD OF YOURSELF: So we're all human and we all have emotions. Sometimes we're sad or we lose control of our emotions and we get upset. And one thing you can say to someone who's upset is, "Get a hold of yourself!" Now this isn't necessarily a nice thing to say, it's a fairly forward thing to say, a fairly bold thing to say, but when you say, "Get a hold of yourself!", what you're asking the person to do is to get a hold of all their emotions and calm down. There's another saying too, "Get a grip!", which means exactly the same thing. So you may have a child who is very, very upset at the grocery store because you aren't buying them candy and you might say to them, "Get a hold of yourself, we're in a public place, this isn't very nice for you to be upset and crying." So get a hold of yourself, or get a grip!
