We are now feeding the puppies 3 times per day (in addition to some supplemental snacks from their mom). I like to use this opportunity to teach the pups to come when called. So I set down the food dish in the yard and then call the puppy with kissing noises as soon as I open the door. You can see that the puppies get very excited for dinner and are already conditioned to come when called at just 4-weeks of age! They just get faster and faster at coming when called as they get older. This is also an ideal time to start some house-breaking conditioning. Notice that several of the puppies stop on the way to the food dish to urinate. By confining them when they are not eating/playing, they are learning bladder control and starting to "hold it" until the appropriate time (whenever I let them into the grass) to go to the bathroom.
