IELTS stands for “International English Language Testing System”. The international English language testing system or IELTS is an international test of English language proficiency for non-native English language speakers. The IELTS exam measures your skills in listening, reading, writing and speaking through two test formats and that is Training. What is the eligibility for IELTS?
As far as eligibility of IELTS exam is concerned anyone above the age of 16 years having a valid passport can take this test. There are no other eligibility conditions required to take this exam.
What are the pattern and the syllabus of IELTS?
Both types of IELTS tests whether it is IELTS Academic or IELTS General Training consists of four elements that are Listing, Reading, Writing and Speaking. While listening and speaking test are same for both there is little difference between reading and writing components.
You have to take all three listening, reading and writing tests without any break, in that order.
The speaking test can be on the same day or seven days before or after the exam. The time allotted for the test is 2 hours and 45 minutes.
In the listening part, you will get 30 minutes to answer several questions based on four pre-recorded audio tapes that you will get to hear. There will be conversations related to everyday life and in an educational setting. Two of the recordings will be speeches on an academic subject as well as in social context. Your answers will demonstrate your understanding of the base of the conversation, opinions and attitudes of speakers and your ability to follow how the ideas build up in the process.
The speaking section is of nearly 15 minutes wherein the examiner will speak to you on an ample range of topics like work, family, studies and interests, etc. Then you will be given a topic and one minute to prepare to be able to speak on the topic for two minutes. The examiner will ask you more questions on the same topic.
Whereas the reading part is of 60-minutes, it involves reading long texts taken from several sources. For IELTS Academic test-takers, the text will be evocative suitable for those wishing to appear for university courses.
Whereas for IELTS General Training, you will get to read extracts related to life in general in English speaking environments. In it, you will be required to answer 40 questions.
The purpose of these tests in both contexts is to evaluate your reading skills and how well are you able to exactly grab the logical argument and the writers’ opinion.
The difficulty level of this module is a little high for academic candidates than general training students.
In the writing for both the tests, the assessors will judge you based on your ability to describe some text, argument, data, figures, graph, like depending on what kind of test you are taking. You will be required to write the same in a formal, semi-formal or informal style, depending on the task at hand in 60 minutes.
What is the IELTS test evaluation process?
IELTS test is evaluated on a scale of 1 to 9 i.e you will get a score better known as BAND between 1 to 9 for each section of your test i.e Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking. This band can be a whole number like 6, 7 or 8 or it can also be a fraction in half like 6.5 or 7.5. Your overall band score is the average achieved from each element of the test.
What is the validity of the IELTS Score?
The IELTS score is valid for two years from the date that is written on the IELTS result form.

The first step is to find an IELTS test centre nearby your place. There are more than 1,600 IELTS test locations across 140 countries and you will definitely be found one at your desired place.
Once your application has been processed, the IELTS test centre authorities will send you a written confirmation of the date and time of your test. You have to take all three listening, reading and writing tests without any break, in that order. The speaking test can be on the same day or seven days before or after the exam. How many times you can take the IELTS exam?
You can take IELTS exam any number of time but with a rider that it can be taken once in a week and four times a month only.

The fee for the IELTS exam as of now is Rs.13,500/-. For online registrations, only credit/debit payment is accepted, for in-person registrations, you will be required to pay by credit or debit card / DD / ICICI bank deposit slip.
