UPDATE: The Warren County Water and Sewer Dept. says the sewer line has been repaired and untreated wastewater is no longer being discharged into the river and streams. ORIGINAL STORY
WARREN COUNTY, Ohio (WKRC) - Canoes and kayaks in Loveland are stacked up on a perfect day to be on the Little Miami. Some businesses are closed because of a broken sewer line.
“A contractor inadvertently hit our forced main, 24-inch force main, resulting in an opening, a break in the force main,” Chris Brausch, director of the Warren County Water and Sewer District explained.
The area affected is south of Old 3C Highway. Crews with the Warren County Water and Sewer district have been working around the clock to fix it since Wednesday. The health department wants people to pass on fishing and wash thoroughly if they come in contact with the water.
“There will be potentially untreated sewage in the river. Certainly, there could be bacteria, viruses in that sewage, and, so, if you ingest that, it could cause illness in you,” said Duane Stansbury, who is the Warren County health commissioner.
The Monkey Bar & Grille is just north of the problem. Sometimes people will stop in off the river.
“Especially this time of year, schools starting back up, we do get some kayaks, some canoes,“ said Dale McOscar, the manager of The Monkey Bar & Grille
While workers heard about the issue south of them, they say it’s not stopping business here.
“The patio view, be in touch with nature and still get all the comforts of home,” McOscar said.
Workers are hoping to have the issue resolved in the next 24 to 48 hours. The health department has not received any reports of illness so far.
