The festival of Karwa Chauth is celebrated by Hindu married women every year on the fourth day after Purnima (full moon day) in the month of Kartika. Women keep a fast on Karwa Chauth - from sunrise to moonrise - to pray for the long life of their husbands. The festival originated and is celebrated mostly in the northwestern part of the India.
