In their most outrageous move to date, Philips Hue are going to intentionally kill off Alexa, Google Home, IFTTT and every other 3rd party integration for their most loyal customers as of April 2020. Are you going to be affected by the shut down? As of the 30th April 2020, Philips Hue (who are now calling them self Signify for some reason) are intentionally crippling the Gen 1 bridge by withdrawing their cloud service in an attempt to force existing Gen 1 customers to buy the Gen 2 bridge. The problem with that is, there are NO IMPROVEMENTS to the Gen 2 bridge!! If we buy the Gen 2 bridge then how long will we have before they force us to buy the Gen 3 bridge!? Until Philips Hue reverse this decision I would strongly recommend you NEVER buy another Hue product again... except for one; The one Philips product that you need to make Hue bulbs and lamps work with other hubs: The Philips Hue remote will allow you to put your existing Hue bulbs into pairing mode so that you can sync them to another provider such as Hubitat, Smartthings, or Ikea and finally leave Philips Hue for good:
