Americans Are Trying Very Hard To Lose Weight. It Just Isn't Working More and more Americans are trying to lose weight.
Unfortunately, a new study spanning eighteen years reveals few are finding success.
In 1999, 34.3% of adults age 20 and older had tried to lose weight. In 2016, 42.2% had tried.
But over the study period, the mean weight of the participants rose from 176 pounds to roughly 184 pounds.
For example, among those trying to lose weight during 2015-16, there was a mean weight gain of eight pounds.
According to UPI, the strategies people use to lose weight have changed since the late 1990s.
The most commonly reported weight loss strategy among study participants was reduced food consumption.
Other methods included exercise, increased water intake, and reducing refined carbohydrates.
