Joker - character, 4th wall breaking ending, allusion to Tony

Joker - character, 4th wall breaking ending, allusion to Tony Discussing Joker's character; explaining "You wouldn't get it" joke and 4th wall breaking ending; showing the allusion to "Tony".

This is a scene from the film "Tony" from 2009, which probably inspired the creators of "Joker" for the scene with the dwarf Gary in Joker's apartment. While you watch it, I will explain the joke in the end of "Joker".

I am seeing a lot of misinterpretations about Joker's character and the film's ending involving the joke "You wouldn't get it". To better understand these two you have to become familiar with the concept "breaking of fourth wall". The "fourth wall" is the invisible, imagined wall separating actors from the audience. Breaking the fourth wall means destroying the barrier between the media and the audience. A character knowing that he is in a movie is an example for this. When Joker starts singing along the lyrics of "That's Life" in the end of the film, such breaking of the fourth wall occurs signifying he knows that this is just a movie. But the psychologist does not know this and if Joker explains this to her, she would simply consider him a madman. She won't get that being violent and killing people is funny when you know this is a film and you are the main character in it. The only other one that will get this joke is the little Bruce Wayne, because he knows about this, just like Joker knows. That's why the joke with the parents dead is on Batman. It is a reference to the joke from "Batman: The Killing Joke" from 2016. Here it is...

But there is one bigger joke in the film and the viewer can understand it only when he is aware Joker himself knows he is the protagonist in a movie being watched. This joke is that the Joker is trying to trick the viewer think him for a mentally ill person, when in fact he is a psychopath pretending to be such person. For example, he isn't imagining being with Sophie because he loves her. All of these emotion provoking scenes exist in the film, scripted and manipulated by Joker himself, just so that he could more easily gain the viewer's sympathy. And his joke would be legit if the audience sympathizes with him. So, if you fall for that, he successfully managed to joke with you. Joker isn't suffering from a psychological trauma. His feelings are not hurt, simply because he does not have any feelings at all. He is a psychopath playing a role to justify the murders in the eyes of the viewer. Did he managed to play you?
