NICE Procedure with transrectal extraction- alternative technique for closure of large rectal cuff The NICE Procedure utilizes the rectum as a natural orifice for extraction of the specimen. For cancer cases, the specimen is stapled and then the staple line is removed on the rectal cuff to allow the specimen to be extracted. In this case, the rectum is very wide and we present an alternative technique to close the rectum in preparation for the intracorporeal anastomosis.
