Police Forces Charge at Protesters During an Anti-Election Rally in Algeria

Police Forces Charge at Protesters During an Anti-Election Rally in Algeria ▶️ Police forces charge Algerian protesters during an anti-election rally in the capital Algiers, Thursday, December 12.
πŸ‘‰ Five candidates have their eyes on becoming the next president of Algeria — without a leader since April — as voting began in Thursday’s contentious election boycotted by a massive pro-democracy movement.
Algiers has seen vast protests since voting began, despite police deploying en masse with water cannon and helicopters.
At least 10 activists were arrested in the morning to prevent a repeat of the previous day's anti-election rallies.
Protesters also ransacked ballot boxes in the disaffected northern mountain region of Kabylie, home to much of the country's Berber minority.
The unpopular vote comes almost 10 months into the mass "Hirak" movement which in April ousted longtime president Abdelaziz Bouteflika and has since kept up mass rallies demanding far-reaching reforms. (AFP/AP)
