Sit Back, Relax, and Break Through | Saatvik Kaul | TEDxAmericanHeritageSchool

Sit Back, Relax, and Break Through | Saatvik Kaul | TEDxAmericanHeritageSchool It’s clear to Saatvik Kaul that this culture of constant improvement through constant effort is extremely detrimental. He says the first step we need to take to fix this is to rebuild our perception of breakthroughs. We need to move on from settling for minor improvements. Instead, Saatvik suggests we think of a breakthrough as something that changes the way we think, something that revolutionizes our thought process. Think about the great breakthroughs of the past, like the discovery of gravity by Sir Isaac Newton, or the first airplane built by the Wright Brothers. These inventions and discoveries weren’t simply innovations completed before the deadline, they actually changed the course of human history. But breakthroughs don’t have to determine the future of all of humanity; personal breakthroughs can also occur, revolutionizing the way you lead your personal life.
While getting used to high school life was challenging for Saatvik in the beginning, he soon “got the hang of things.” He says he was never really the typical “Indian kid”- he dislikes math, and science really isn’t his “thing.” But as you can probably guess by the fact that he is about to give a TED Talk, Saatvik loves to talk. At American Heritage, he has had a successful Speech and Debate career so far, and having just started Model UN, the knowledge he has gained from these activities has helped him hone the skills he brings to the TEDx stage. He finds it absolutely amazing that people can make the world laugh, cry, think, act, and so much more, simply by using their voice. Saatvik says nowadays, there is an even bigger emphasis on making your voice heard. His desire to make his own mark is what led him to audition for this TEDx AmericanHeritageSchool event and be that someone worth listening to. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at
