These are some common words in English that sound exactly the same but have very different meanings!

When someone is using one of these words while speaking - they often sound exactly the same and so you need some context in order to know which one is being used. When writing the words, it's much easier to tell the difference between which word you are using, because they are all spelled differently.

Here is a lesson on how to use each word correctly:

There:

This word is indicating a place or location (sometimes physical, sometimes figurative) - It is in or right at that place.

We are walking from here to there. - from here to literally that place, there. There is not much to do at my house. - calling attention to this fact there. His response is justified there. - calling attention to that matter, there.

Their:
This word is indicating the belonging or possession of something by an individual or individuals. - It belongs to them.

This is not your toy, it is their toy. - The toy belongs to them, it is theirs.Their house is for sale. - The house belongs to them, it is theirs.Try to control your temper in their presence. - You are in their space (presence).

They're:
This word is a contraction of the words 'They' and 'Are' indicating they as the subject and the verb to be.

They're really good at spelling. - They (those people there) spell well.I don't know why they're talking. - Those people are talking. What if they're lying to me? - Those people are lying.

You can try putting them all together:

They're standing right there with their hands in the air.

THEY ARE (THOSE PEOPLE) standing right THERE (AT THAT SPOT) with THEIR (BELONGING TO THEM) hands in the air.
