Around 1:00am HPD responded to a Burglary in Progress call at a Sunnys Food Store at 9802 Bauman. When officers arrived, they were told three suspects in a Uhaul had just left. Another officer spotted the U-Haul and attempted to stop the driver, but they refused to stop, leading police on a lengthy chase. At one point the truck slowed down and one male jumped out and ran on foot, but officers quickly caught him. There were three suspects in the truck. The driver kept going and later at the intersection of N. Main and North Loop, another suspect was hanging onto the passenger door apparently ready to jump at any moment and slipped and lost his grip and fell, and the truck ran him over. He died there at the scene. The driver still kept going leading police on a crazy chase, at one point, rammed a police car, but the officer is okay, uninjured. HPD finally got some spikes set up and flattened the tires, so the driver could not go any more and stopped. The female driver was taken into custody, and faces numerous charges, including Assault of a Peace Officer and Felony Murder, and Felony Evading, and Burglary of a Business. Also during the chase, an HPD Sergeant suffered some sort of medical condition and had to be taken to the hospital. Good sound bite with HPD.
