A British teenager found guilty of lying about being gang-raped while on holiday in the Cypriot resort of Ayia Napa plans to appeal, her lawyer has said. The case that has raised questions about the island's treatment of victims of sexual assault.
The 19-year-old Derbyshire woman, whom The Telegraph has chosen not to identify, says she was raped by up to 12 Israeli men in her hotel room in July.
Nicoletta Charalambidou, the Cypriot lawyer representing her, said: "As expected from the course of the trial, our client was found guilty of the offence of public mischief.
"The decision of the court is respected, but we respectfully disagree. We are planning to appeal within the provided deadline to the Supreme Court. And we hope that our client will find justice in Cyprus."
