1. Buttonhole Stitch: LEAVES | The buttonhole stitch (which is actually the blanket stitch)) is used in many types of hand embroidery – general surface embroidery, needle lace, filet work, crazy quilting, whitework and cutwork. You can use the buttonhole stitch effectively to create filled flowers and leaves, by spacing the stitches very close together.

2. Stem Stitch: STEM | Stem stitch is one of the most common and basic embroidery stitches. It is used frequently in surface embroidery, freeform embroidery, whitework, redwork, and more. This stitch creates a thin line and can be used to outline embroidered shapes, to form flower and plant stems and a variety of other applications. Stem stitch is easy to work in a straight or curved line, making it suitable for so many embroidery designs.

3. French Knot: FLOWERS | The French Knot is a simple embroidery stitch that creates a nubby, little three-dimensional dot. It works great alone, or strung together in lines, or clustered to form a lovely piled surface. Bring your needle up through the fabric and wrap the embroidery floss around the needle a few times. When you push it down into your fabric and bring the needle through, you'll see a delicate dot.
