Liverpool vs Wolves certainly wasn’t short of controversy. Jurgen Klopp’s side needed VAR to take the lead with referee Anthony Taylor believing Adam Lallana had handled the ball before Sadio Mane scored. However, replays proved that the ball had hit Lallana’s shoulder and the goal was allowed to stand. VAR came to Liverpool’s rescue once again a few minutes later. Wolves thought they had equalised through Pedro Neto but replays showed that Jonny was very marginally offside. You couldn’t exactly blame them, either. Just 48 hours previously, VAR had awarded Manchester City a penalty against them before it ordered a retake after Conor Coady was adjudged to have encroached by a matter of centimetres. However, it seems they allowed their frustrations to get the better of them. Well, one player certainly did. That’s because Jonny - who was adjudged to be offside in the build-up to Wolves’ disallowed goal - was involved in an incident with a Liverpool ball boy in the second half injury-time. And now footage has emerged showing exactly what happened. Sky Sports showed a clip of the incident and it’s fairly inconclusive. The ball boy probably holds onto the ball for longer for Jonny’s liking and the Wolves defender attempts to snatch it out of his grasp. It’s not quite Eden Hazard vs Swansea ball boy but Jonny probably shouldn’t have reacted the way he did. After the match, a statement from Liverpool Football Club said: “The club will follow established protocols in terms of gathering the relevant information. "While that process takes place we will be making no further comment." Having seen the footage, we can’t imagine Jonny being dealt with a lengthy ban.
