One of the major and ongoing tasks of a caregiver for a parent who has dementia is to maintain a familiar environment. Since, as a child, I know what kind of environment my mother is familiar with, I'm the best resource for "setting the stage". However there are always little adjustments, like when the sparkling lights of a holiday ornament become disorienting or overstimulating. We need to be alert to changes like this so we can adjust the environment according to our loved ones inner changes.
