Many become new citizens out of conviction, because they believe in Singapore: Heng Swee Keat At the Institute of Policy Studies’ Singapore Perspectives conference on Jan 20, Singapore Acting Prime Minister Heng Swee Keat fielded questions from the audience, who included academics and opposition members. He tackled topics ranging from new citizenships to the impending GST hike. People's Power Party chief Goh Meng Seng raised the issue of new citizens and where their allegiance would lie amid geopolitical shifts. He asked if this could become a divisive force. Mr Heng said many have become new citizens out of conviction, because they believe in Singapore.
