A Greater Liberty

A Greater Liberty A GREATER LIBERTY

And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses; Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross; And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it. Colossians 2:13-15

AN AMAZING FACT: Fireworks are believed to have originated in China more than 2,000 years ago. They became very popular in Europe during the Renaissance and were brought to America by the 1600s. The first Independence Day celebration included some fireworks, and they have become standard for the occasion. The record for the most firework rockets launched in 30 seconds is over 56,000!

Over 200 years ago, the American colonies adopted the Declaration of Independence and seceded from Great Britain. The war for independence began in 1775 and ended eight years later. Sacrifice and bloodshed were required in order to gain liberty. The new nation was at stake.

More than 2,000 years ago, a far greater war was waged, a far greater liberty obtained. Sacrifice and bloodshed were required. The survival of the human race was at stake. Redemption for every human hung in the balance.

Jesus left His home in heaven and came to Earth to fight for us, to rescue us. He paid the price for our sins by sacrificing Himself. We were dead in our trespasses, but “He has made us alive together with Him” (Colossians 2:13). In Jesus we can have true liberty, freedom, and independence from sin for all eternity.
