Skater Girl is the painfully hilarious and unexpectedly touching tale of Jess, a 20-something improv comedian still trying to find her way, who is challenged by a friend to figure out what exactly she's most passionate about in life. While testing out different hobbies she encounters a skateboarder in Brooklyn who takes her down the awkward road, literally and metaphorically, to self-realization. Depicted in black and white with a score reminiscent of Georges Delerue, this short is an homage to both the playful films of the French New Wave and the female buddy comedy, and stars female skate icon Sierra Prescott in the titular role.
Skater Girl was written, directed and produced by the female filmmaking team Jessie Katz and Lindsey Goodman under the umbrella of their company Piano Factory Pictures, a production engine driving bold projects that, through the lens of the female gaze, aim to upend tired tropes to make way for a new, truer representation of our diverse world and the way it’s reflected back onscreen. Down to the smallest detail - from the way the duo runs their set, to the stories they choose to tell and the actors they choose to convey them – Piano Factory strives to illuminate human experiences that are too often left unrepresented.
