One of the most anticipated moments in Avengers Endgame Is the scene in which Hulk brings back everybody that Thanos snapped away in Infinity War. This epic moment illustrated just how devastating it is to use the gauntlet and infinity stones to make changes on a universal scale. Despite the fact that the radiation from the gauntlet is mostly the gamma , which granted Hulk his powers in the first place, he appears to be severely hurt after he snaps and his arm is brutaly damaged. So the question that many of us probably had : is the damage permanent and will hulk lose his arm because of that? Luckly Russo Brothers made an official update on Hulk’s condition during a live Q&N stream I’ll leave a link to it in the description, I’ll also summarize what they said in this video. Music:
Before we begin to answer it, I wanted to thank you guys for the feedback on my previous video explaining why Hulk struggled so much to snap the gaunlet while Tony did it fairly easily. Also make sure to subscribe to the channel to not miss any future updates and theories.
According comics, in one universe Hulk was able to regenerate from his bones and in another universe wolverine was able to kill him, so it appears to be a huge difference in Hulk abilities across different universes that’s why we should pay close attention to Hulk’s healing factor in marvel movies.
In the MCU we haven’t really seen Hulk regeneration factor only his ability to get stronger as his anger increases. On the top of that Tony Stark was able to knock him unconcious in Avengers Age of Ultron using Hulk buster suit.
In Endgame right after the snap Hulk appears extremely hurt and weakened. However a few moments later, he’s holding debris of the crashed building and during the final battle he doesn’t use his arm to fight but he’s able to move it. Then we can see his arm in a cast in the final scenes of the movie. Cap doesn’t seem to have any scars left on his face that he received from Thanos which indicates that at least a couple days have already passed but Hulk’s arm doesn’t seem to get better, which suggests that his regeneration factor is not able to heal it.
It’s important to note that Thanos does have a regeneration ability but as we saw in Endgame his arm was damaged permanently. Thanos is at least just as powerfull as Hulk and still he could not heal his arm.
Russo Brother confirmed this idea iduring alive Q&A, they said “He’s lost an arm. He lost Natasha. That’s not coming back. He’s damaged himself. I don’t know. It’s interesting. That’s permanent damage, the same way that it was permanent damage with Thanos. It’s irreversible damage. His arm, if you noticed, is a lot skinnier. It’s blackened. So, he loses a lot of strength there.”
In other words, the permanent damage on his Arm symbolizes the loss of Natasha who will never come back. However Russo Brothers also added that “But who knows? There’s a lot of smart people left in the MCU. Maybe someone helps him repair that. Maybe someone gives him a new arm. I have no idea where that character goes from here. The nice thing is we didn’t have to pay attention to where it goes after this, we just try to tell a satisfying ending.”
Hulk and Natasha had a certain cemistry and From storytelling standpoint, looks like directors tried to illustrate an ending of Hulk’s arc . he loses Natasha forever which is reflected by his permanent injury.
Based on these comments, Hulk might be able to heal his arm with the help of doctor Strange in the same way the Ancient One taught Strange to regeain control of his hands after a terrible injury. Another person that can help hulk is Shuri who can potentially encorporate vibranium into his body. Since directors said that “maybe someone gives him a new arm”, it’s even possible that Hulk's cripled arm will be completely replaced by a mechanic one, similarly what they did to Bucky.
To summarize, Hulk’s arm injury is permanent and it won’t regenerate in a way that we think unless other character come up with some creative solutions. Thank you guys for watching, leave your thoughts in the comments section and subscribe to the channel for more content, see you next time.
