Manchester United’s Alexis Sanchez nightmare was behind the decision to pull the plug on a deal that would have seen Paulo Dybala move to Old Trafford in the summer, according to reports. United agreed a deal with Juventus but pulled out because of Dybala’s wage demands and the agents’ fees involved. And The Athletic claim they were worried about shelling out such significant sums on another player following their problems with Sanchez. Sanchez was handed a contract worth around £400,000 per week when they signed him from Arsenal in 2017 but he has struggled to settle. He has since joined Inter Milan on loan in a deal that will see United continue to pay a significant portion of his wages. The report from The Athletic claims Dybala was demanding a package worth £18m a year while the agents’ fees would have cost them £13m. And it adds that United’s executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward has learned his lessons from the Sanchez mistake and that he did not want to risk making another one.
