Lt Gen Manoj Mukund Naravane will take over as the next Army chief. Naravane will succeed General Bipin Rawat as COAS. Lt Gen Naravane is currently the Vice Chief of Army Staff. Before taking over as vice chief, he was heading the Army's Eastern Command. He has also headed the Shimla-based Army Training Command. Gen Rawat's term as Army chief ends on December 31, 2019. He took over from Gen Dalbir Singh on Dec 31, 2016.
