SAM vs Spike, Has cabinet and playfield build quality suffered on newer Stern pinball machines?

In this newest episode of Arcade & Pinball talk we ask the question.. Is it just me or were the Sam machines built better?

There is an obvious difference in weight due to the change of technology but the cabinets and playfields also seem to be.... well... not as well made?

Looking at the cabinets you can tell abutments are off and there are porous areas in the wood on the cabinets and playfields, it seems to us Stern is using less dense wood in the construction from our observations ..

As businesses move towards being more profitable, cutting costs is one way to do it.. we are not against being more profitable but at what cost?

What are everyone’s thoughts on this subject? Do you think build quality since spike was launched has diminished?
