Thousands of US troops head to the Middle East

Some 3,000 US troops are heading to the Middle East as tensions with Iran escalate to a level not seen since the invasion of Iraq.

Iran has vowed revenge after its most powerful military commander, Qasem Soleimani, was killed in a US airstrike.
